Machine vision has become a key technology in the area of manufacturing and quality control. It can be applied to inspection, gauging, machine guiding and positioning, object recognition and process monitoring in manufacturing. The main focus of the Machine Vision Lab. at IE & M Department, Yuan-Ze University is to develop machine vision methodologies and systems for industrial applications, especially the defect inspection in electronic manufacturing industries such as PCBs (Printed-Circuit Boards) and LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays). The Lab. equips with various frame grabbers, B &W and color CCDs, lens and color filters, and lighting sources such as LEDs of various colors and shapes, fiber optics, collimate lighting and backlighting. They help to evaluate the construction of a best machine vision system for a specific application.

The research in the Lab. involves the following topics:
